Maker & Moss is a San Francisco interior design studio founded in 2013. We design spaces that are personal, sophisticated, and built to be lived in, rooms with warmth, eclecticism, and a point of view that develops through genuine collaboration. Our approach is grounded in natural materials and honest craftsmanship, and we bring the same careful attention to a single room as we do to a complete home. Before anything else, we listen. It’s the most important part of the job and what allows us to deliver your vision, refined through our lens.
Multifamily & Commercial Design Lead
Scott Upper leads Maker & Moss’s work in multifamily and commercial design, bringing a background in space planning and contract furniture to projects that require both design sensibility and operational precision. With experience across luxury residential communities and hospitality environments in the Bay Area and beyond, he’s built the supplier relationships and project management practice to take larger-scale work from concept through installation without losing the detail that defines the studio’s approach.
Client Liaison, Central Coast & Los Angeles
Nancy Wall is a resident of Montecito and San Francisco. She graduated from UC Berkeley and completed Christie’s Fine and Decorative Arts Master’s Program in London. Having visited 97 countries, Nancy draws inspiration from the colors, textures, and spaces she has encountered throughout her travels.
She has spent a lifetime attuned to how environments feel, the way light moves through a room and how a well-chosen piece can anchor an entire home. At Maker & Moss, Nancy serves as client liaison and regional presence for the Central Coast and Los Angeles, connecting clients with the studio’s design and sourcing expertise. She is the kind of person who remembers what you loved three years ago and finds it.
Client Services & Operations
Carmen Torres comes to Maker & Moss after more than 20 years in San Francisco’s nonprofit sector, where she built a career around donor relations, operations, and organizational management. She’s overseen campaigns, managed teams, and served as a point of contact for boards, major donors, and executive leadership — work that demands the same qualities that make for excellent client services: follow-through, clear communication, and genuine care for the people she works with.
Her roots are firmly in San Francisco and the Bay Area, and her commitment to the communities here — particularly around arts access, STEM education, and public greenspace — reflects the same values that drew her to Maker & Moss.
